Northallerton echoed to the sound of music when a Summer Fiesta came to the new Town Square on Saturday 13 August. To celebrate its 75th anniversary, the Rotary Club of Northallerton arranged a day of live musical acts and a jukebox to provide continuous music from 9 am until 4 pm. On a beautiful sunny day crowds flocked to enjoy the music, a varied mix of jazz, choirs, tributes to Frank Sinatra and the Beatles, and a specially-composed song from Max, one of the Café Nero staff.
Members of the public were delighted to be able to choose their favourite music on a quality jukebox loaned by Gary Lewis of Betterdaze in Zetland Street. Many admired the hand-crafted and elegant machine as they made their choices. Impromptu dancing added to the sense of fun, and the Square came alive. Many people said “why don’t you do this more often, this is what the square is intended for?”
Meanwhile, the tombola stall was very busy, and children were enjoying a variety of challenging games. There was a buzz of fun which seemed to make everyone a little happier. The Rotary Club was raising funds for the Dales School in Morton-on-Swale, and other Rotary charities, and the day was a great success.
